Interested in science? Want to learn more about light?
Come to McMaster University's public lecture on light microscopy, which uses light and lenses to magnify an object that can't be seen with the naked eye. Light microscopes work a lot like telescopes, except that objects are small and close to the lens rather than far away.
This free event will explore the early history of light microscopy to the 2014 Nobel prize in chemistry for super-resolved fluorescence microscopy. The lecture also marks the UNESCO International Year of Light.

McMaster Engineering Physics High School Internship
The Department of Engineering Physics at McMaster is pleased to offer up to two paid summer internships for high school students completing Grade 10 or 11 in June 2015. Each six-week internship will be supervised by one of McMaster’s Engineering Physics faculty members in the following areas of research:
The submitted videos will be hosted on the Department of Engineering Physics website and will go through a 2-week public voting period during the first two weeks of June. Your application will be judged based on your ability in engaging the public, so please encourage people in your network to view and vote for the top videos.

Who Can Apply?
Any high school student completing Grade 10 or 11 in June 2015, who is interested in science and technology and in exploring Engineering Physics as an academic discipline for university-level study.When?

This is an extraordinary training and learning opportunity and the trainees will be compensated $2250 for the 6-week internship.How to Apply?
The application process involves filling the Summer Internship Application and submitting a two minute video on Vimeo. In the video, you (the applicant) must:- Demonstrate an experiment that explains a physics concept you have learnt in school or encountered in real-life.
- Choose an experiment that can be safely performed.
- Verbally explain the physics behind the observations.
- Explain why you would be a suitable candidate for an Engineering Physics Internship at McMaster.
- Video Submission and User Engagement
- Once the video is submitted to Vimeo, the link must be included in the online application form.

Science is Beautiful Art Competition
Beauty is in the eye of the scientist...
The 3rd Annual Science is Beautiful Competition aims to generate interest in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) by having high school students use various forms of art to conceptualize science in unique and interesting ways! Participants, whether it be done individually or in a group, must create an original work of art that either uses a scientific concept to create the main elements of the work (e.g. freezing flowers in liquid nitrogen and photographing them as they shatter on impact), or use more conventional artistic media to represent a scientific concept in an original way (e.g. a painting or musical composition representing the Big Bang).
Works of art entered in the contest, accompanied by the descriptions and participant information (full name(s), grade and school as well as a signed consent form) must be submitted by Friday, May 29th, 2015, before 4pm. Only one entry per person or group is allowed. All entries (or any questions about the contest) should be sent to Let's Talk Science at McMaster at ltspp@mcmaster.ca.

Secondary Arts: Inspiring Leadership (June 23 - June 29)
Grades 9-12.
Leadership development through the medium of arts and music. A creative environment helping students gain new insights, imagine and build possibilities for themselves, their schools and the world around them. You can choose a main focus (Music - vocal or instrumental, drama, dance, visual art)
Secondary Athletic Leadership (June 29 - July 5) or (July 6 - July 12)
Grade 9-12.
Leadership development through athletics. The ideal candidate is not required to be a top athlete but instead has leadership potential and is interested/involved in school athletics.
Secondary French Athletic Leadership (July 19 - July 25)
Grade 9-12.
Leadership development through athletics offered in French. Applicants from French immersion schools will be asked to take an informal language proficiency test.

PEO Oakville Scholarship
Professional Engineers Ontario Oakville Chapter is pleased to announce that we are currently accepting applications for four scholarships, valued at up to $700.
The scholarships will be awarded on the basis of community contributions, extracurricular activities, academics, and the student's intention to pursue a career in engineering profession. To qualify for this award, the student must be graduating from a secondary school in Oakville or Milton in 2015, and enroll in a Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB) accredited Ontario university engineering program for 2015-2016 school year.

What is Scientifically Yours?
Scientifically Yours is a two day residential workshop designed to encourage young people to continue their studies in the sciences and to pursue careers in science-related fields. Scientifically Yours provides an opportunity for students to learn more about science in a university setting.What will I learn from the workshop?
You will learn about career opportunities from professionals who have careers in the sciences, including medicine, university research, and industry. Everyone will participate in six science and mathematics projects. Through the projects, you will get hands-on laboratory experience. The two-day event also includes a plenary lecture by a distinguished scientist, recreational activities, networking, and an opportunity to dine with a number of professional scientists. The workshops will be conducted with the assistance of Brock University student mentors, staff and faculty members.For more information, click here.
